Group Messaging Gateway (GMG)
Solution
GLT undertook with the Global IT teams a detailed feasibility study and recommended possible options to the Group. The methodology followed was to document specifications in OOAD. GLT drove the initiatives to build a prototype as part of an extensive POC and to research and evaluate third party products.
A formal user community was formed to ensure global resource allocation and rationalization of workflow and functionality.
Post evaluation and POCs, GLT designed and developed the new system using UML and advanced design techniques in J2EE.
Platform independence and enhanced user experience have been ensured through the choice of web-based technologies. Key technology players including IBM and SUN have been roped in at critical points in the development cycle to maximize performance and stability.
The broad categories of usage patterns in the GMG system are:
• Applications sending and receiving messages to GMG in an asynchronous, store and forward manner
• Internal web based users performing various operations on SWIFT messages
• Internal web based users maintaining the ‘Master’ or ‘Configuration’ data of the GMG system
• Internal web based users monitoring and troubleshooting the system
• Payment scheduling – Mechanism to schedule payment messages for local clearing through central banks
The solution provides the following user facing modules in the application:
• Control – The entry point to all controlling functions of links, scheduling of payments, printing control and control of scheduled jobs.
• Display – A display entry point that gives the ability to view message queues and search for messages.
• Message – The message section contains all workflow functions to manage message traffic and handle exceptions.
• Reports – A reporting subsystem, that uses Cognos in the background, to generate predefined reports either at end of day or at run time.
• Administration – All Static data definitions and system set-up related information.
