Group Messaging Gateway (GMG)
Overview
Group Messaging Gateway (GMG) is a financial messaging system, which is used to parse, validate and route financial and non-financial messages. GMG connects to internal applications of the group as well as external networks. It is designed to handle the processing of large volumes of messages. The system supports a variety of users and it is capable of handling different types and formats of messages. GMG conforms to protocols of SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) and is the Group’s gateway mechanism to the external world.
GMG replaces the Telegraphic Processing (TP) System as the group’s interface to SWIFT. The current telegraphic processing (TP) application processes about half a million messages with growth rates above 12% per annum. It has 3 instances globally (1 each in UK, Hong Kong and USA). TP has 200+ links to some 30 types of internal group applications, supporting 13 network and application protocols. The current automated routing rate is in excess of 98%.
GMG is crafted to support the linking of applications within the group covering Core Banking, Treasury, Trading, Electronic Banking, Payment Filtering for Anti-Money Laundering, Alternate Banking Channels (internet, phone) and Payment Systems, etc. It also integrates with customer applications.
The system can process around a million messages per day amounting to an estimated one trillion pounds (GBP) per day. It is also designed to scale up to any future growth needs for the Group. It will have over 3500 system users across 300+ departments.
It is designed to manage Straight Through Processing (STP) for roughly 99% of its traffic and has a built in workflow for handling exceptions.
